Super Kanji Search includes the following character sets.

(1)JIS Level 1 and 2 (JIS X 0208) --6,879 characters--


JIS Level 1 and 2

These characters are established by JIS(Japanese Industrial Standards). It consists of 6,355 kanji characters(Level 1: 2,965 characters, Level 2: 3,390 characters) and 524 non-kanji characters (JIS X 0208:1997). These characters can be used on normal computers in Japan.

† The characters in JIS Level 1 and 2 are colored black and displayed on the 1st plane of "Basic Japanese" in this software.

(2)JIS Level 3 and 4 (JIS X 0213) --4,344 characters--


JIS Level 3 and 4

JIS Level 3 and 4 (JIS X 0213:2000) were designed for providing the sufficient character set for handling contemporary Japanese, expanding JIS Level 1 and 2 (JIS X 0208). It consists of 3,685 kanji (Level 3: 1,249 characters, Level 4: 2,436 characters) and 659 non-kanji characters. It also includes unit symbols such as circled numbers, Roman numerals and the Euro symbol.

† The characters in JIS Level 3 are colored light blue and displayed on the 1st plane of "Basic Japanese" in this software. The characters in JIS Level 4 are displayed on the 2nd plane of "Basic Japanese".

† This software does not support JIS X 0213:2004.

(3)JIS Supplementary Kanji (JIS X 0212) --6,067 characters--


JIS補助

By the widespread use of computers in society, the number of kanji characters for computers were running short and 6,355 kanji characters in JIS Level 1 and 2 were not enough. In 1990, 5,801 kanji characters and 266 non-kanji characters including additional alphabets were established as JIS Supplementary Kanji (JIS X 0212-1990), aside from JIS X 0208. It includes the characters used in Latin languages except English. Using these characters, a lot of European languages can be written.

(4)Korean (KS X 1001) --8,224 characters--


Korean

KS X 1001(formerly called KS C 5601) is the standard of the character set of Korea. It includes Korean Kanji and Hangul. Japanese Hiragana and Katakana are also included. Similar to JIS X 0208, KS X 1001 consists of 94 rows and 94 cells. For the efficient allocation of coding, each 94 characters are allocated closely by the units of 126. Super Kanji Search takes over the original free space in which characters are not specified by KS X 1001.

(5)Simplified Chinese (GB 2312) --7,445 characters--


Simplified Chinese

GB 2312 is the standard of the character set of China. It is the collection of daily used characters in Chinese mainland and it includes mainly Simplified Chinese. It is Chinese character-based collection, but Japanese Hiragana and Katakana are also included. Similar to JIS X 0208, GB 2312 consists of 94 rows and 94 cells. For the efficient allocation of coding, each 94 characters are allocated closely by the units of 126. Super Kanji Search takes over the original free space in which characters are not specified by GB 2312.

(6)Simplified Chinese (GB 18030) --634 characters--

GB 18030 is the standard of the character set of China. Super Kanji Search supports a part of GB 18030.

(7)Traditional Chinese (CNS 11643, Big5) --13,491 characters--


Traditional Chinese

CNS(or BIG5) is the standard of the Chinese character set mainly used in Hong Kong and Taiwan. The character shapes of Traditional Chinese resemble the Japanese old character shapes.

Braille

64 characters of 6-Point Braille and 256 characters of 8-Point Braille.

GT

GT project collected 190,000 characters and the project carefully selected 78,675 characters. The official name for GT project is "Study for Multilingual Text Processing on the Multimedia Communication System" project, Research for the Future Program of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. GT Font is the main result of the project. GT Font is designed for knowing the character's lines and dots easily, because GT Font was designed for storing texts on computers.

Tompa

Tompa is the only one living pictograph in the world, having been used by Naxi people in Yunnan Province of China.

The characters used in manga including "あ゜" and "め゛".

Juki-kana

Hentaigana(variant forms of kana letters) is the predecessor of daily-used Hiragana. Juki-kana characters are Hentaigana used for Basic resident register of Japan. They are still used for names or places.

Hentaigana

Hentaigana is a type of Hiragana having been used since Heian Period. Because the daily-used Japanese syllabary was created after the Meiji Restoration, we have less access to Hentaigana. However, we can still find Hentaigana in the signs of traditional inns or soba(buckwheat noodle) shops.

(16) Non-Kanji Characters in Unicode BMP --6,475 characters--

Non-kanji characters in Unicode Basic Multilanguage Plane, excepting kanji and Hangul. It includes a lot of characters for the languages(e.g. Arabic, Latin) of countries which are not using kanji and symbols except kanji. Kanji parts(CJK Unified Kanji, Hangul Syllables, CJK Compatible Kanji) are omitted in TRON Code.
